  Dawn Spacecraft vacuum chamber

Dawn Spacecraft Placed in Thermal Vacuum Chamber

The Dawn spacecraft, shown here at Orbital Sciences Corporation in Dulles, Virginia, was moved into a vacuum chamber in the cleanroom and was baked for about a week for the purpose of driving off undesirable contaminants. After baking, Comprehensive Performance Tests (CPTs) will be repeated to verify that no harm was inflicted to the spacecraft during the relocation or the baking.
